Founded 1938 as an evening swimming club for the parents and pupils of Newcastle High School.

Name comes from: PARents of the Orme Girls and Old Newcastillians – PAROGON

Following the disruption of the war years club was reformed & its water polo team flourished

1950s successful water polo team competing in Staffordshire, North Midlands & Northern Counties with many players representing the county including current club President Bryan Cartwright

1960s water polo saw a general decline with the seniors disbanding in 1966 and the juniors in 1970. General swimming continued with around 650 members.

Of the back of a successful school team the water polo section reformed in 1982

After two years in the Northern League the club was elected to the National League

Early 1980s the membership peaked at 800

1988 was a very mixed year – the club’s 50th anniversary, the death of club founder and president Dennis Cartwright, lost three northern counties finals, lost in the semi final of the ASA Cup and lost out in the promotion playoffs for the first division in the last seconds of the game. Relegation to the third division followed but in 1990 the club bounced straight back going through the season unbeaten.

Promotion to the first division of the National league was achieved in 1991 via the playoffs & entry to the Midland League enabled the club to further grow.

Relegation back to Division two of the national league followed in 1994 & the yo-yo continued in 1997 with an unbeaten season & promotion back to the top flight as champions. The club withdrew from the National League in 1999, ironically after achieving its highest ever position of 7th in the First Division.

In spite of this setback, competition continued in the Northern Counties & the Midland League, where the club finished champions for three successive years from 2000 until 2002.

Throughout this period, the club has continued to produce a number of senior & junior international players.

2008 was the 70th anniversary of the club’s founding and with some new members and players coming through, it is hoped that it can continue to flourish for both recreation & competitive sport.

2009 has been a tough year with the pool closed for a much needed refurbishment, with no general swimming and the polo team playing all of their fixtures, bay 3 away from home. Midland League Division 1 status was retained and we can no push on in the new pool.
